Our The Iron Horse, Rawhide, and Wrangler placer claims are located on Thompson Creek at a crossroads of three of Plumas County Gold Districts; Quincy, Sawpit Flat and Spring Garden. The location of Thompson Creek is southeast of East-Quincy near Thompson Valley. This area was first mined during the gold rush and intermittent prospecting and development work has continued ever since. This is an extensive gold bearing region of Plumas County.
Geology: The principle rocks that underlie these districts include slate, mica schist, quartzite, limestone lenses, serpentine, amphibolite, and greenstone. Thompson Valley is underlain by Recent and Pleistocene alluvium. Gold-quartz veins occur principally in slate, Tertiary deposits and mica schist, and can be as thick as 15 feet and are also part of a number of gold-quartz veins that run through the area. Tertiary deposits are generally rich in gold, ore contains free gold and varying amounts of sulfides, mostly pyrite. The Recent and Pleistocene valley alluvium is gold bearing in some places.
